Social media marketing affords the medium to small business owner an opportunity that was only reserved for the wealthiest of companies up to a few short years ago…
Creating a rock-solid recognizable brand.
Usually when you think of branding, the iconic figures come to mind – Coke, Mercedes, etc. For them to make it to the top of your conscious, they’ve had to spend multiples of millions of dollars over decades.
The sheer cost alone was prohibitive for the medium to small business owner in attempting to create a recognizable brand for his/her business.
With the advent of social websites, that barrier has been completely destroyed! Now any business can quickly and easily brand themselves to millions of potential customers and reap the same rewards historically reserved for the big dogs.
The only problem is developing the right strategy for accomplishing this in your company. In this article, I’m going to show you one way that you can use immediately to create a consistent and noticeable look through all of your social platforms.
Profile yourself
Many business owners think they need to have some kind of fancy logo in order to have an actual brand, but that couldn’t be further from the truth!
Branding yourself is by far and above the most effective way to utilize new media marketing. Think about it, we’re talking about websites that are centered around connecting with people…not images.
We as humans have a built in desire to connect with other people, that’s why these new media sites are so popular.
So go ahead and get a nice business photo taken if you don’t have one already and put it up on all of your profiles, before long you’ll become your brand!
Social media marketing is such a new method of attracting and retaining customers that there isn’t any hard-core data that proves one strategy is better than another.
There’s a great debate raging within the online marketing community regarding which type of content will do the trick of bringing in the desired leads and ultimately sales that a business needs.
Do you use text or video? You can look left and right and find an equal amount of proponents for both…
So just how do you, as a business owner decide what strategy to go with?
My answer to that question is pretty simple: use both! But I’m going to put a spin on it that I haven’t seen anyone else talking about yet.
What I’ve found to be most effective in all the different marketing initiatives I’ve tested over the last 10 years is to use a technique known as re-purposing of content.
That is, to take one piece of content and transform it into multiple forms of media. What I suggest you do in order to maximize your social media marketing is to start with a piece of content that is in text form, perhaps a blog post.
Take your post and submit it as an article to any number of the top article directories available such as Ezine Articles, Articles Base, etc.
Then take your article and break it down into a slide presentation on Powerpoint. If you are comfortable with speaking your content, you can do a simple screen capture with voice over using software like Camtasia Studio, Cam Studio, or Jing.
If you aren’t comfortable with voiceover, buy a nice royalty free music track. All PC’s come with a piece of software call Windows Movie Maker. You can upload your Powerpoint slides and the audio track you purchased and make it into a movie file in a matter of minutes, it’s really simple.
Assuming you are a Mac user, there is a similar free program on your Mac…
After creating your video, publish it to video submission sites like YouTube. Announce all of your content on your profiles and link to it.
Making your content do double duty by re-purposing it into multiple medias is the key to social media success, not using one media over another.
